Dr. Sullivan is currently The Director of Radiation Oncology, and a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the University College Hospital Galway, Ireland. Until March 2005, he served as the Cancer Institute Medical Director for Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. He holds a concurrent position as the Medical Director for the Thoracic Research Program at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. He has served as the CEO and Medical Director of Maryland Regional Cancer Care (MRCC), a network of five radiation centers in Montgomery, Prince Georges' and Charles Counties, Maryland. This is the largest provider of radiation therapy in the State of Maryland. As a practicing radiation oncologist in the Washington, D.C. area, Dr. Sullivan was the co-founding partner of Associates in Radiation Medicine (ARM) a private practice of radiation oncologists.

Dr. Sullivan is currently the Chairman and CEO of Radiation Management Associates (RMA), and Associates in Medical Physics (AMP), both cancer management/service companies, with both public, as well as, private sector contracts. Dr. Sullivan held additional medical directorships, namely, Affiliated PET Systems’ diagnostic imaging center in Silver Spring, MD. Prior to his community-based private practice, he served as Acting Chief, Radiation Oncology, at the NCI, Bethesda, Maryland. While at the NCI his research interests included the lymphomas, and small cell lung cancer. He has an active interest in prostate and lung cancers cancer. He is author of numerous publications in cancer research, as well as several book chapters in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Sullivan is fellowship trained in medical oncology, and Board certified in radiation oncology.

Dr. Sullivan has co-developed several international cancer projects. He initiated the NCI-Ireland Cancer Consortium, a government collaborative effort in cancer research and education, between the United States of America and Ireland. In addition, he is a Founder and Co-Chairman of the All-Ireland Cancer Fund (AICF). This is a private, not-for-profit, foundation established to develop advanced cancer projects in Ireland. He initiated and developed a collaborative pediatric oncology project linking St. Jude Children's Research Center, Memphis Tennessee, with Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin, Ireland. For this, he fundraised (with others) the start-up costs of $1 million.
